Venturing just under a mile away, you’ll discover Glaisdale, boasting a village shop, post office, local butchers, and a free-to-use tennis court. The Arncliffe Arms Pub offers thirsty travellers a warm welcome and refreshing drinks. Situated on the edge of the moors, there are many scenic walks to enjoy, including the famous Beggars Bridge steeped in history and the Museum of Victorian Science.
Blakey Ridge
For those seeking a more remote retreat, Blakey Ridge is home to The Lion Inn pub, standing at an elevation of 1325 feet and the highest point of the North York Moors National Park, making it the second-highest pub in Yorkshire and fourth-highest in England. Blakey Ridge provides a perfect escape for nature lovers with numerous local walks and stunning views of the surrounding Rosedale village.

Lealholm is a short stroll away, featuring picturesque stepping stones that cross the Esk river. The small village also has a shop, post office, petrol station, and The Board Inn pub.
Explore Local Attractions
Explore the local byways and discover the fascinating history of the glacier-formed valleys, once dotted with peat bogs, ironstone mines, and works. More information can be found at Skinningrove Mining Museum, Whitby Museum at Pannett Park, or Danby Moors Centre, which offers additional interest with stargazing events and art exhibitions throughout the year.
Take a stroll along the Cleveland Way or Coast to Coast path, hire a bike from the Cycle Hub, or indulge in some delicious food at the neighbouring village of Fryup Dale. You can also experience a journey on the heritage steam trains at the North York Moors Railway in Grosmont, featured in popular TV series, Harry Potter films, and the latest Mission Impossible and Indiana Jones films.
Hit The Coast
Drive to the coast and explore the charming ‘chocolate-box’ villages, once centers for fishing, smuggling, and alum mining. Discover why Staithes is renowned for its Art Group, search for jet and fossils at Runswick and Robin Hood’s Bay, swim, or even surf from the golden beach of Sandsend. To the north lies the handsome Victorian town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, with its traditional pier and original water-powered Cliff Lift, while to the south are the well-known visitor resorts of Whitby and Scarborough, offering clifftop castles, beaches, and popular seaside attractions.
Visit The Famous Whitby
Whitby is a must-see, with its quaint shops, streets, and alleys waiting to be explored. Climb the 199 Steps to St Hilda’s Abbey, the site of the historically significant Synod of Whitby of 664, which decided how Easter would be observed throughout the Christian world.
Visit St Mary’s Church and graveyard, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” and celebrate twice a year with Whitby’s welcoming hundreds of distinctly dressed Goths for music and events during ‘Goth Week.’ Start the Captain Cook trail with a visit to the replica ‘Endeavour’ ship in the harbour, or head out to sea on fishing or whale-watching trips.
Indulge in locally brewed beer in characterful pubs and devour local specialities, including ice cream, baked goods, fresh-dressed crabs, famed Whitby-smoked kippers, and the must-have fish and chips.
